Take Me Out to the Ballgame! - How You Can Enjoy Baseball at the Jersey Shore
New Jersey may not be home to a professional baseball team like the Yankees or Phillies, but we do have some great minor league teams in the area that provide a fun experience similar to the pros - maybe even better. Minor league baseball creates some amazing and memorable experiences that everyone can enjoy. Here's a guide to what you can expect from some of NJ’s best minor league teams.
The BlueClaws are definitely a favorite here in Belmar. Located only a few towns away in Lakewood, the BlueClaws make sure to pack in the fun all summer long with some outstanding promotions. Throughout the season, you can head out on a Thursday night and enjoy $1 beers and sodas for “Thirsty Thursdays”. On Sundays throughout the entire season, all kids eat free! If you like fireworks, the BlueClaws host a “Fireworks Spectacular” after the games on Fridays and Saturdays. Aside from these weekly promotions, there are also some great theme nights and giveaways that you have to check out, including Stranger Things, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and more! Only a short drive from Belmar, the BlueClaws are definitely a team worth seeing this summer! The BlueClaws home season stretches from mid-April through early September, so there's plenty of time to catch a game.
While Trenton is definitely a bit further than Lakewood, it's certainly worth the trip. Being the minor league affiliate of the Yankees, the Thunder held some current MLB greats such as Greg Bird, Gary Sanchez, and Aaron Judge on their team only a few years ago. You never know who the next ‘Derek Jeter’ will be, but you may get a chance to see them play before they move up to the pros. Similar to the BlueClaws, there are some promotions that you should try to catch this summer including Thirsty Thursdays, firework nights, days for the kids, and, most importantly, Tuesday Dollar Dog Nights. To commemorate their 25th season, Trenton Thunder will be changing their name to the Trenton Pork Roll for Friday games. That's right, the team will be rebranding itself the Pork Roll, based on one of New Jersey’s delicacies. The Thunder/Pork Roll season stretches from April until September, so head out and have some fun.
New Jersey has a few other teams you can check out this summer like the Somerset Patriots, the Sussex County Miners, and the New Jersey Jackals. All of these ballparks will have similar features, but you may have to travel just a bit further depending on your location. Summer is the best time to sit at a ballgame. It’s a home run!
